Experts in Stringology Met at FIT CTU

At the end of August 2026, experts in algorithms for string processing gathered at the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT CTU) for two international events. The first was the 29th edition of the Prague Stringology Conference 2026, followed by the Summer StringMasters 2026 workshop.

The Prague Stringology Conference took place on 24–25 August and was attended by 18 participants in person and a further two joined online, representing five countries from around the world. The conference focused on current research in stringology and related fields. The papers presented covered topics such as full-text indexes and interesting theoretical properties of strings.

The conference was followed on 26–27 August by the informal Summer StringMasters workshop, which traditionally provides a space for intensive collaboration among researchers working on string-processing algorithms. This year’s workshop brought together eight researchers from five countries. Participants worked in smaller groups, discussed current research problems, and explored new opportunities for collaboration.

“I consider the invited talk on privacy-preserving pattern searching to be one of the highlights of this year’s conference. It showed that research in string processing also extends to practical issues related to protecting sensitive data,” said Prof. Ing. Jan Holub, Ph.D., of FIT CTU, the main organizer of both events.
