Interested in Open Build Service (OBS) and Linux kernel development for IBM Mainframe? Come to a unique lecture “Linux on Z Development - From packaging in the openSUSE Build Service until Linux Kernel Development at IBM“ by foreign experts as part of the Informatics Evenings at FIT CTU.
The openSUSE is an open-source project by SUSE and the foundation for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES). All rpm packages and iso images are built with the Open Build Service (OBS). In this evening you will receive an overview, of how the openSUSE community is working together and how you can contribute there. Then you will receive an introduction to the role of an openSUSE Release Engineer for s390x, who is responsible for successful releases for the IBM mainframe architecture. That includes also some communication with SUSE and IBM, besides of some coding. Finally, you will receive some insights into the Linux Kernel Development for IBM Z & LinuxONE (IBM mainframe). Specialties of the s390x architecture, and how the collaboration for bugfixes is working, will be explained based on a kernel bug example.
SUSE is part of the cooperation with industry program at FIT CTU, which helps our students to gain practice during their studies and supports the creation of joint research and innovation projects.
