From 1 October 2025, Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jan Janoušek, Ph.D., will become the new dean of the Faculty of Information Technology CTU in Prague (FIT CTU). He was elected by the Academic Senate of FIT CTU for the 2025–2029 term. In leading the faculty forward, his key priorities will include enhancing the quality of education, strengthening student support and fostering of the development of top research teams, and advancing the internationalization of the faculty. He will succeed Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Ing. Marcel Jiřina, Ph.D., who has led the faculty for two consecutive terms since 2017.
Assoc. Prof. Janoušek has been working at FIT CTU as the head of the Department of Theoretical Computer Science. He is a well-known person in academic governance, having served as chairman of the CTU Academic Senate and currently as vice-chairman of the Higher Education Institutions Council of the Czech Republic. His research interests include formal language theory, syntactic analysis, arbology, and programming languages for quantum computing. He is the guarantor of several specializations and has supervised numerous master’s and doctoral theses.
“My motivation for becoming dean was mainly to advance our faculty even further—to improve the quality of education, support excellent research, and maintain FIT CTU a leading faculty in the field of computer science. At the same time, I feel a personal responsibility to ensure that both students and employees have an environment where they can study, work, and create successfully,” says Assoc. Prof. Janoušek, the new dean of FIT CTU.
“I want FIT CTU to be a faculty that is not afraid of new challenges, open to cooperation and innovation, while maintaining a high standard of quality. This means excellent education, internationally respected research, and strong links with industry. An important part of this vision is also an open and friendly atmosphere within the faculty,” he adds.
According to the new dean, technology plays a key role in today’s societal development, and the faculty’s goal is to educate young people with a strong emphasis on the ethical and socially beneficial use of advanced technologies. “High-quality technical education today is not only about mastering facts, but also about the ability to think technically and understand broader contexts. The faculty must therefore maintain a continuous focus on innovation, excellence in education and research, foster connections between industry and the research community, and create opportunities for the dissemination of knowledge that extends into other fields.
“FIT CTU is a very dynamic and attractive faculty. We have a responsibility to prepare experts who will be involved in creating the digital future of society. At the same time, we are a partner for industry, public administration, and the academic sphere,” adds Assoc. Prof. Janoušek.
Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jan Janoušek, Ph.D., will lead the faculty from 2025 to 2029.
“The faculty has made significant progress over the past eight years. We have successfully increased the number of applicants, and the quality of our graduates continues to rise. We have launched a number of important European projects and secured funding for both development and excellent research. We also managed to navigate the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic and introduced new, promising master's programs, such as Quantum Informatics and Teaching Informatics for High Schools. I am also very pleased with the VýLet initiative, which supports the scientific activities of our students. During this period, the faculty has nearly doubled in size, and I believe it is on its way to a bright future. I wish my successor strength, energy, and joy in continuing the work that will further advance the faculty, its employees, and its students,” points out Assoc. Prof. Jiřina, who has led FIT CTU since 2017.
