Record Attendance at the P2D2 Conference at FIT CTU

The 17th edition of the Prague PostgreSQL Developer Day (P2D2), held on January 28-29, 2025, at the Faculty of Information Technology CTU (FIT CTU), saw a record turnout. Over 250 developers and users of PostgreSQL, the popular open-source database system, gathered in Prague to participate in workshops and lectures by leading experts in the field.

The conference, organized by the CSPUG (Czech and Slovak PostgreSQL User Group) in cooperation with the FIT CTU, confirmed the growing popularity of the PostgreSQL relational database, which is increasingly becoming a viable alternative to the Oracle database system in medium and large companies.

"This year’s P2D2 edition was exceptional in many ways," said Michal Valenta, head of the Department of Software Engineering at FIT CTU. "As always, interest in the conference was enormous, and registration sold out almost immediately after opening. Due to the growing demand, we expanded the program this year to include three parallel workshops on the first day and two parallel lecture tracks on the following day to accommodate the high level of interest. We are also very pleased with the increase in international participants and the strong representation of students from FIT CTU, who, thanks to the faculty’s co-hosting, not only received free entry but also the promise of closer future collaboration," he adds.

Among the star guests of the conference was Robert Haas, one of the main and most influential developers of the PostgreSQL project, as well as vice president and chief database researcher at EnterpriseDB.

"The participation of Robert Haas and other international experts confirms the growing significance of P2D2 within the global PostgreSQL community," adds Pavel Stěhule from CSPUG.

The organizers are already planning the 18th edition of the conference. Thanks to positive feedback and growing interest in PostgreSQL, the P2D2 conference is becoming a key event for anyone interested in this modern database system.
