Ten students from the Faculty of Information Technology at the Czech Technical University (FIT CTU) in Prague successfully completed the prestigious interuniversity prg.ai Minor program, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). This program is a key initiative designed to prepare the next generation of AI experts in collaboration with Prague’s universities and the city of Prague. Out of the 27 graduates this year, 10 were from FIT CTU. The certificates were ceremoniously awarded on September 26, 2024, at the residence of the Prague Mayor, in the presence of representatives from the city, CTU, and Charles University.
The program not only addresses the technical aspects of AI but also delves into ethical issues surrounding the field. It includes networking events and professional meetings with leading business figures, providing students with valuable contacts and practical experience. Since its inception, the program has successfully graduated a total of 74 students, including 21 from FIT CTU. Some of the graduates include Ing. Daniel Bohuněk, Ing. Petra Čurdová, Ing. Yury Hayeu, Ing. Dominik Chodounský, Ing. Matěj Jech, Ing. Jan Kimr, Ing. Martin Lank, Ing. Matěj Latka, Ing. David Mašek, and Ing. Jan Peřina. Currently, 140 students are enrolled in the program.
Martin Lank, a recent graduate of FIT CTU, explains: “I was motivated to apply to the prg.ai Minor program to expand my knowledge in areas like reinforcement learning and AI ethics, which I now consider even more important than before. The program not only provided me with the expected knowledge but also the opportunity to become part of a rapidly growing AI community full of talented people.” He adds, “I appreciate the connection between universities and departments, which complements our study programs, as well as the events outside of classes. Whether it’s collaboration with companies or a guest lecture at the school, I would recommend this program to anyone already working in AI.”
Yury Hayeu, another recent graduate from FIT CTU, shares: “I applied to the prg.ai Minor program because I wanted to gain deeper knowledge in machine learning. This field is vast, and studying at just one faculty cannot cover all of its topics. Thanks to the program, I had the opportunity to explore selected machine learning methods in more depth and from a different perspective. Overall, I evaluate my participation very positively and am glad that I was able to complete the program.”
Jan Peřina, another FIT CTU graduate, adds: “My motivation to join the program was to further develop in the field of artificial intelligence, but also to meet interesting people in the field. What did I gain from my participation? Certainly a broader perspective, as I started thinking about AI and ML problems in a new way. The biggest benefit for me was the Industry Talks, where partner companies give expert lectures on relevant topics. Thanks to this, I realized that Prague is indeed a strong player in the AI world. For me, prg.ai Minor is definitely a great program that has allowed me to grow in a new direction.”
The prg.ai Minor program is open to all students from participating universities, particularly, but not exclusively, from FIT CTU, FEL CTU, FSV UK, and MFF UK. New students are accepted every year, with applications typically opening in the spring via the prg.ai Minor website.
