Petr Kudrnovský

Student

Petr Kudrnovský came to study at FIT CTU due to his long-standing passion for technology and computer science, which had been with him since high school. In the final years of high school, he became interested in creating websites, which quickly turned into a favorite hobby and a source of extra income. His interest in computer science and web technologies led him to decide to study at FIT, where he was drawn to the specialization in web engineering.

Currently, Petr is in his fourth year of his bachelor’s program and is writing his bachelor’s thesis.

"I must say that I made a good choice. At FIT, I found a lot of friends, good support, and the opportunity to develop. It's a tough school, I had some rough moments, but it also taught me a lot and I take away a lot of experience," says Petr.

Petr is deaf and uses a cochlear implant. Before starting his studies, he had concerns about transitioning to university and how well he would understand the large lectures. These concerns turned out to be unnecessary – most of the lectures were sound-boosted, and Petr always sat in the front rows, where he had a better view of the lecturer.

"Fortunately, I didn’t have to deal with any major problems, thanks to the willingness of the lecturers and fellow students."

During lectures and exercises, he also used a directional microphone provided by the ELSA Support center. This microphone can be attached to the lecturer's chest or hung around their neck, which helps Petr hear better, especially in situations where the lecturer’s mouth is not visible or when the lecturer is moving.

"I had certain lecturers that I didn't understand as well or lectures where there was a lot of noise, and that’s where I used the microphone," he adds.

"If you have a disability like I do, CTU has great support for students with disabilities, and FIT is a faculty where I've never encountered any issues regarding that. On the contrary, everyone is very supportive, and I really like that."

"FIT is truly a great school, with many enthusiastic people in the field, both fellow students and lecturers. Through the school, one can get involved in many interesting projects, competitions, and companies. The environment motivates you to push further beyond the curriculum. Many of my fellow students start their own projects and work on interesting things during their studies. However, it’s also important to mention that FIT is a demanding school, and studying there is definitely a challenge, but it’s worth it!"
