We have developed a new election system for the Czech Mensa

The application is customized to the needs of the Czech branch of the Mensa organization.

A FIT CTU student has developed a new voting system for the Mensa Czech Republic. The hand-counted ballots have been replaced by a new electronic system that guarantees the protection of sensitive data and a secure election process.

The Mensa CZ election system is used to elect members and the chair of the Mensa Council, which is essential for the proper management and functioning of the organization. Two FIT CTU students designed an electronic Mensa election system and described it in their bachelor theses. From both projects, Mensa chose the one that better suited its needs. The students thus participated in a real tendering process with their works. The winning solution was described in the bachelor thesis entitled System for electronic voting in Mensa ČR, whose author is Bc. Vladimír Cherkezov.

“This cooperation is a prime example of students transferring their knowledge into company practice. The student from our project had the opportunity to work on a real project, which the company subsequently used,” said Ing. Tomáš Nováček, supervisor of both student theses and also a member of Mensa. “Mensa, as our client, actively communicated all its technical and graphic designs with us. Based on this, the students were able to design and implement an election system that exactly matched the client’s needs,” he added.

Mensa used the new electronic system for the first time in the May elections to the Mensa CZ Council. Voters positively evaluated the simplicity of the voting system and its user-friendliness.
