In the laboratory, we study all the steps that lead to understanding and extracting knowledge from data, i.e., from collecting data from various systems to preprocessing and analyzing data or modelling and visualization to applying machine learning and artificial intelligence. The primary research focuses on data mining and machine learning algorithms (e.g. segmentation, classification, prediction, recommendation and anomaly detection) and their scalability along with efficient design.

In addition to basic research, we also support applied research in which we connect DataLab members with industry partners from different fields. We offer a wide range of exciting topics to work on, whether research projects or term papers and final theses. In addition, we participate in international competitions and hackathons in machine learning. The lab’s activities are closely linked to the Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence Research Group (ML-CIG).

Instruction

We are responsible for teaching the bachelor’s specialization “Artificial Intelligence” and master’s specialization ”Knowledge Engineering” under the Department of Applied Mathematics. In addition to active teaching, we provide consultations, supervise semester papers and final theses, or organize mock defences within the ML-CIG research group.
